About SWIS
The Sailing Weather Information Service brings together the expertise of professional meteorology and the requirements of the sailor.
Simon Keeling
Dr. Simon Keeling is a well known professional meteorologist. He is Yachting Monthly’s resident weather expert, a television weatherman, author, lecturer and a self confessed weather anorak.
Simon became fascinated by the weather when he was 8-years old and forecasting for sailors has been his life’s work. For many years he has striven to advance the communication of weather forecast information to sailors, and to improve the weather knowledge of sailors through his Weather School company.
In fact, his PhD, awarded by the University of Birmingham focuses on the Communication of Weather Forecast Information. He also has a Master of Science degree in Applied Meteorology and Climatology and now lectures the Weather Forecasting module of this course at the University of Birmingham.
He is the author of several weather books and a DVD explaining how the weather works. Pop ‘Simon Keeling’ into Google and you will see how much Simon is involved with the weather.
But despite this, he still considers himself to be a ‘bench forecaster’, and likes nothing more than being on forecasting duty and writing forecasts for SWIS. These are supplied through Simon’s weather forecasting company, Weather Consultancy Services which was established in 1997 and has been providing forecasts to sailors, pilots, ulitilty companies, web sites, retailers and just about anyone else ever since!
DmXmD
Technology is the backbone of SWIS. Being able to get the information to the sailor in the shortest possible time is key to the success of the Company.
DmXmD are the technology partners of SWIS. Run by a serious yachtsman, DmXmD know what weather information is needed by a sailor and how this should be delivered. After all, it’s great to have web access on-shore and in the marina, but just a few miles offshore, often SMS is the only method of delivery of forecasts, and DmXmD provide a worldwide infrastructure to enable this to be achieved.
The combination of Simon Keeling and the staff at DmXmD provide a formidable team which can deliver timely, accurate and readable forecasts anywhere in the world, when they are needed.
